Aizawl: Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma is looking to the future. During an October 14, 2026, press interaction at the Mizoram Assembly Conference Hall, he laid out plans to grow the state's GDP contribution to one per cent by 2047. This initiative, dubbed Mizoram 2047, mirrors Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Viksit Bharat 2047 project. He expects the plan to benefit Gen Z and Gen Alpha residents.

Politics remain fluid. The Chief Minister signaled his Zoram People's Movement party will likely contest the next election alone. However, he admitted the path ahead is not set in stone. "In the next election also, it is likely that we'll fight alone. But, you know, politics is the most unpredictable thing in the world. So, it all depends on the situation at the right time," he said. He maintains a cooperative stance with the central BJP-led government.

Lalduhoma touted the state's distinct social structure. He highlighted the lack of a caste system and the total absence of beggary. Rural shops often operate on trust, with customers leaving payments in boxes while owners stay away. He noted that guests are treated as sacred. Refusing them is a social taboo.

The Chief Minister contrasted these strengths against the state's remote geography and lack of heavy industry. He keeps his security footprint small. He reduced his convoy size to cut down on unnecessary arrangements. Tourism is the next hurdle. Aizawl currently offers 3,200 beds per night, a figure he admits may struggle to handle upcoming winter surges.

Personal history bridges his past and present. He recalled his 1985 appearance on the cover of India Today. "One thing, if you look at the front page of India Today from 1985, you will see my picture alongside Amitabh Bachchan," Lalduhoma said. He sees these roots as vital to the state's ongoing identity.
