Mizoram ZPM alters rules to let Lalduhoma lead party and state

Aizawl: Mizoram's ruling Zoram People's Movement changed its rules on September 8 to keep its leader in charge. The party executive committee met in Aizawl and altered Clause 1 of Article 21. This change lets Chief Minister Lalduhoma hold an office-bearer position while running the state.

The move scraps a previous ban on ministers holding party roles. The restriction still hits the rest of the cabinet. Other ministers stay barred from party posts under the old rules. Party leaders confirmed the shift after the meeting.

The executive committee also decided to ditch internal elections for leadership roles. They put the Val Upa Council in charge of picking party officials instead. This gives the council power to appoint members without a vote. The party confirmed the shift with a simple statement: "The latest amendment clears the way for Lalduhoma to formally assume a party office while serving as chief minister."
