Aizawl: The Chakma Autonomous District Council officially signed off on a plan to open a Mizoram Cooperative Apex Bank branch in Kamalanagar. Leaders say current options just do not cut it. The State Bank of India and Mizoram Rural Bank branches currently struggle to serve the region's dense population.

The proposal hit the table Thursday at the CADC Art and Culture Hall. Executive Secretary Pronit Bikash Chakma led the meeting, joined by bank chairman Lalnunsanga and various council staff. Chief Executive Member Nirupam Chakma pushed for the expansion, citing the heavy demand for credit across the area.

Growth must move beyond Kamalanagar. Residents in Longpuighat, Borapansury, New Jagnasury, and Parva also need reliable financial services. Better roads would help banks justify moving into these harder to reach spots. Government jobs cannot cover the number of young people needing work. The council now plans to lean into entrepreneurship and skill development to keep the youth busy.

Lalnunsanga sees real potential for profit. "The CADC area as an important commercial hub and said there was scope for cooperation to expand employment and business opportunities," he noted. The bank hopes to help locals find financial independence. Officials believe the new branch will help small businesses grow through better access to loans. Future efforts will focus on agriculture, tourism, and small-scale industries under the state Bana Kaih policy.
