Aizawl: Nirupam Chakma met Mizoram Governor Vijay Kumar Singh on July 27 to demand a fix for the financial breakdown gripping the Chakma Autonomous District Council. Staff have gone without pay for four-and-a-half months. The crisis has paralyzed local governance.

Chakma laid out a new long-term development roadmap for the region. Governor Singh reviewed the plan and told the council to adjust the strategy before finalizing the details. The talk also turned to the CADC Secretariat building. Construction stalled over a decade ago despite 13th Finance Commission funding. The Governor promised to hunt for new money under a Centrally Sponsored Scheme to finally finish the site.

The Governor said he already discussed the wage arrears with Chief Minister Lalduhoma. He pushed the state government to act fast on the missing paychecks. For the future, Singh wants the council to scout land for a central school.

Administrative friction remains high. Chakma urged the Governor to clear a backlog of council rules sitting on his desk. He specifically demanded the early approval of the Town Planning Committees Rules, 2025. He warned that the delay hurts local operations: "the pending assent has adversely affected the council's governance and administrative functioning."
