Chakma Council Urges Mizoram Government to Resolve Funding Crisis

Aizawl: Chakma Autonomous District Council Chief Nirupam Chakma met Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma in Aizawl on Tuesday. They talked about the Council's broken finances and a development roadmap. The Council faces a 63-crore shortfall for the 2025-26 fiscal year. Money is tight. Employees and pensioners have gone four-and-a-half months without payment.

Chakma pushed for state intervention to cover these overdue wages. He also asked for help to finish the CADC Secretariat building. Work stopped on the structure 12 years ago after the final 13th Finance Commission funds expired. The Chief Minister told the council to draft detailed project reports and fresh estimates for these outstanding tasks.

The Council needs cash to furnish a new student hostel in Aizawl. They also want two school projects and a fish pond development included on the state priority list. The Chief Minister instructed the Council to submit specific concept notes for every plan through proper channels. The Chief Minister advised, "prepare separate concept notes and Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for each component of the plan and submit them through the prescribed channels for consideration." Officials expect these moves to address the ongoing fiscal crunch.
