Aizawl: Chief Minister Lalduhoma met with state ministers and senior officials on August 24 to fast-track infrastructure projects hit by monsoon delays. The meeting at the Chief Minister's Conference Hall included Urban Development Minister K Sapdanga, PWD Minister Vanlalhlana, and other cabinet members. They reviewed progress on several state-wide initiatives.
The Thenzawl Peace City Master Plan in Serchhip district remains a priority. It spans 85 sq km, with 51.81 sq km marked for development. Officials set aside Rs 4 crore for waste management, Rs 8 crore for Dilpui Lake, and Rs 3 crore for a Saturday Market. Another Rs 23 crore funds Lau river restoration. This project aims to reduce congestion in Aizawl, located 90 km away. Officials stated, "measures needed to keep projects on schedule" dominated the discussion.
Work continues on the Central Young Mizo Association Conference Centre at Thingsulthliah. Backed by the Rs 99.71 crore Swadesh Darshan 2.0 scheme, crews have finished all exit-road cutting. Hill cutting is 80 per cent done and entry-road work hit 90 per cent. Workers expect to finish by March 2028.
Progress on the Mizo Fiber Grid Network is slower. Funded at Rs 50 crore, the project aims to link district headquarters using 543 km of Optical Ground Wire. Crews have strung only 24 km so far. They face a December deadline to finish the network.
Construction of the Rs 60 crore office complex in Aizawl is currently at 15 per cent. Rain hampered the work. The Rs 100.24 crore Pukzing-Silsury road in Mamit district reports 8.38 per cent progress. Officials must resolve compensation claims to finish that road by January 2028.
