Imphal: Machi village residents have demanded immediate action from the Manipur government to fix crumbling school facilities and improve medical care. The call comes after years of neglect in the remote area. Machi Village Chairman M. Vosco Maring aired these frustrations during a discussion on regional development held at the Machi Community Hall.
Maring pointed to a nearby Primary Health Centre, situated four to five kilometres away, as a primary failure. Doctors and nurses are rarely there. The facility shutters on Sundays, leaving residents stranded during medical emergencies. Maring also blamed a lack of residential quarters for staff for the center's poor performance. He appealed to the Health Department for help: "Ensure round-the-clock medical services and address the shortage of essential facilities."
The event, focused on peaceful coexistence, brought together several local leaders. Attendees included UPF president Nongthombam Rupachandra, NIPCO president Oinam Premjit, MAPI Council president K.C. Romio, CADA president Hijam Priyokumar, and AMSU president Lukram Malangba. The programme was organized by the United Peoples Front, the National Identity Protection Council, the Manipur Peace and Integrity Council, and the Machi and Neighbouring Village Authority.
