Imphal: Ukhrul MLA Ram Muivah debuted five life-support ambulances and 500 solar street lights on September 30. The project aims to fix emergency healthcare gaps and brighten remote areas in Manipur. The launch took place at the AAI Imphal Community Hall. Attendees included Imphal Airport Director Chipemmi Keishing, Joint General Manager Honpam Keishing, airport staff, and CISF personnel.

The Airports Authority of India funded the effort through its corporate social responsibility program. Ukhrul Football Club and North East Power Infra handled the actual work. Muivah thanked the partners. He called the event a “small red-letter day” for the local residents.

Electricity remains a major headache. Muivah noted that many villages still lack power in the 21st century. He lobbied for a 33-KV substation at Sahamphung in 2022, but the government has not built it yet. Elders struggle to walk safely after dark without street lights. The new solar units will be split evenly across all 52 villages in his constituency.

Healthcare access gets a boost too. Talui Primary Health Centre and Kamjong District Hospital will each receive one of the five advanced ambulances. The remaining three go to Ukhrul District Hospital. The total bill for the gear hit Rs 2.20 crore. Airport Director Chipemmi Keishing noted that this equipment will help transport patients quickly during emergencies while offering a clean, reliable way to keep public spaces lit.
