Imphal: The National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited has opened bidding for a 9-km road upgrade in Ukhrul. This project covers the stretch along National Highway 102A, running from Dungrei Junction to Toloi Junction. It comes with an estimated cost of ₹40.55 crore.
Construction will utilize Thin White Topping Technology during the 2026-27 financial year. The Engineering, Procurement and Construction contract package, identified as NHIDCL/RO-Imphal/Ukhrul Town/0.00-9.00/2026-27, requires a 12-month completion period followed by three years of maintenance. The corporation is running the project through a two-bid e-tendering system.
Interested firms can access tender documents on the official NHIDCL website and the national e-procurement portal. Submissions remain open until 3 p.m. on September 23, 2026. Technical bids will open on September 24 at 3:30 p.m. at the NHIDCL Regional Office in Imphal.
Ukhrul MLA Ram Muivah pushed for this project after meeting Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari. Muivah believes the rigid pavement technology is essential for the hill district. He said, "The choice of a rigid pavement-based technology was particularly important given Ukhrul’s climatic conditions."
Muivah argues that traditional asphalt fails under heavy monsoon rains. He is also calling for an integrated design that includes proper drainage and concrete-covered pedestrian pathways. Gadkari previously directed the ministry to prioritize work on NH-202 and NH-102A following reports of land handover delays and legal interventions in the region. The project excludes any firms currently blacklisted or labeled as non-performing by the NHIDCL.
