Agartala: Former Tripura Chief Minister and current Lok Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb met Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi. Deb demanded immediate action on Tripura's crumbling road network. The poor state of several national highways has choked economic activity and crippled local travel.
Deb pointedly criticized the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited, or NHIDCL, for dragging its feet on vital projects. He also pressed for new ropeway lines to help tourism and transport across the state's difficult, hilly terrain. The roads are a mess. Commuters are fed up.
Gadkari responded quickly. He ordered the Managing Director of NHIDCL to start emergency repairs on damaged stretches and beef up routine maintenance routines. The Minister promised to watch project timelines closely to ensure faster completion. Deb thanked Gadkari for his "sincere cooperation, constructive attitude, and timely intervention."
Deb believes the move signals a major shift. "This is a positive step that will directly benefit the people of Tripura and improve the state's infrastructure framework," Deb said. State officials and NHIDCL now face pressure to turn these promises into actual, finished roads. Locals wait for results.
