Agartala: Devotees packed the Ramakrishna Mission in Agartala on Maha Ashtami to watch a young girl honored as the Divine Mother. The ceremony started at 9 am and lasted for one hour. Vedantika Chakraborty, a resident of Daleshwar and member of the Parashar gotra, served as the Kumari Ma.
Hundreds of people from across Tripura arrived to witness the ritual. Participants offered pushpanjali and prayed for peace and the welfare of society. Swami Amartyananda Maharaj, secretary of the mission, led the event. He noted that the practice draws from Hindu scriptures and tantric traditions to honor the feminine as a source of divine energy.
The monk explained the history of the ceremony, including the legend of the demon Kolasura. He emphasized that the ritual asks worshippers to look inward and seek personal growth. “The Kumari is a seed, and she represents feminine power and the Mother of the Universe,” Swami Amartyananda said.
The service serves as a reminder of the spiritual potential found in purity of thought. The mission draws a direct line from this practice to Sri Ramakrishna’s worship of Sarada Devi. This yearly event forces devotees to evaluate their own conduct while recognizing the divine in a young girl.
