Agartala: Tripura will host its annual Mayer Gomon puja carnival on October 23. The event centers in front of the MTB Higher Secondary Girls School in Agartala. Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha led a planning meeting at the Muktadhara Auditorium on Monday to iron out the details.
Saha wants more eyes on the festivities. He suggested inviting foreign guests and creating special tourism packages to highlight the state's cultural heritage. The Information and Cultural Affairs department organized the session, drawing city officials, police leadership, and local club heads. Officials noted that the event, which started in 2022, draws larger crowds each year.
Logistics remain a top priority. Dr. Saha ordered crews to trim roadside trees and shift low-hanging electrical wires. He also instructed police to guarantee that ambulances have clear routes during the Puja period. Security is tight. The Mayor noted that the state's law and order is normal, but insisted that maintaining safety is essential.
The government is cutting red tape. Agartala Mayor Dipak Majumder announced a new single-window system for club permits and confirmed that officials have waived registration fees. Last year, the city recorded 697 Durga Pujas.
Club representatives pressed for a ban on loud DJ music during celebrations and immersion. Meanwhile, IGP Manchak Ipper warned organizers against the forced collection of donations. The Revenue Secretary pushed for safer pandals and better waste management. ICA Secretary Kiran Gitte emphasized the event's growing importance. He stated, "Mayer Gomon was gradually emerging as a reflection of Tripura's cultural heritage." Officials watched a documentary on the event before concluding the meeting.
