Wokha Sets November 2026 Deadline for Merapani Road Project

Kohima: The District Planning and Development Board in Wokha finalized a November 15, 2026, completion date for the Wokha to Merapani road. This decision followed an October 13 review of National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited operations. Officials met at the Deputy Commissioner Conference Hall, led by Chairman Mhathung Yanthan, MLA Mhonbemo Humtsoe, and Deputy Commissioner K Mhathung Tsanglao.

NHIDCL crews are currently clearing drainage, cutting jungle growth, and patching potholes. Yanthan demanded high-quality workmanship from every contractor on the site. NHIDCL confirmed the project will hit the mid-November target.

The board shifted focus to crumbling infrastructure at All India Radio Wokha. Members resolved to petition higher authorities for a "full-fledged upgradation" of the station. Low signal quality hinders the broadcast reach.

Education officials tracked shrinking student numbers across government schools. They blamed rural to urban migration and systemic infrastructure failures for the drop. Yanthan closed the meeting by ordering Sub-Divisional Officers, Block Development Officers, and Border Magistrates to attend future sessions regularly. The board also mapped out logistics for upcoming departmental sports events.
