Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha is pressuring the central government to fix the state's crumbling national highways. He sent a letter to Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari demanding immediate repairs on NH-08, running from Churaibari to Agartala, and NH-108B, which connects Kumarghat, Kailashahar, Kamalpur, Khowai, and Agartala to NH-08 and NH-208.

The roads are failing during the monsoon season. Commuters face constant hazards. Saha wants the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited to send a senior team to assess the damage and restore traffic flow. He also ordered the NHIDCL Managing Director to hold regular progress reviews with field staff to ensure timely work. Chief Secretary Kiran Gitte is also coordinating with federal authorities on the matter.

Saha said he previously warned officials that the rains would destroy these roads. He noted that the state government lacks jurisdiction over these national corridors, forcing them to rely on federal action. "I had earlier discussed the condition of the roads with Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and informed him that the problems could resurface during the rainy season," Saha stated.

Separately, Saha is managing city development and national data collection. He reviewed Agartala Smart City projects and ordered officials to accelerate construction despite rain-related delays. On July 17, he finished his own online self-enumeration for Census 2027 from his home. He pushed residents to use the new digital system, adding, "Census is not merely a statistical exercise but one of the key foundations for planning and implementing various developmental initiatives."
