Imphal: Union Home Minister Amit Shah heads to Manipur in the first week of October. He will lay the foundation stone for the Senapati Medical College during the trip. Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh confirmed the visit after meeting Shah at his New Delhi residence this Wednesday. The state cabinet cleared the project for the district, which is home to a large Naga population.

Shah reviewed state development goals during the talk. He signaled federal support for local needs. The Home Minister said the Central government would work towards "fulfilling the aspirations of the people of Manipur." Officials kicked off formal planning for the college at a high level meeting on July 23.

The facility aims to boost healthcare access in the hill districts. It will be the second such institution in the hills. The Churachandpur Medical College arrived first in 2022 with 100 MBBS seats. Shah praised the local government for reopening the Imphal-Dimapur-Guwahati bus route and keeping National Highway 2 clear for traffic. The visit marks a push to improve infrastructure in northern Manipur.
