Doomdooma Students Demand Action on Healthcare and Education

Guwahati: Protesters gathered Monday near the Gandhi statue in Tinsukia district for a two-hour sit-in. The Doomdooma Regional Students’ Union demanded immediate government intervention on education, health, and civic safety. Assistant Commissioner Sudeep Gogoi accepted their formal memorandum.

The union wants Bir Raghav Moran Government Model College upgraded to a university. They also requested that the Doomdooma FRU Hospital become a co-district hospital to handle local medical demand. The group identified the spread of intoxicating substances as a major threat. They demanded strict enforcement against drug dealers, stating, "The problem was affecting young people and contributing to criminal activities."

Infrastructure remains a point of contention. The union requested a tea research centre and a multi-level parking lot to cut traffic. They pushed for two specific footbridges at Rupai Siding and Don Bosco Tiniali to protect pedestrians. They also want officials to adopt scientific measures to curb frequent road accidents.

Leadership from the All Tinsukia District Students’ Union and local figures like Deben Deka attended the protest. The union sent copies of their demands to the Assam Chief Minister, Education Minister, Health Minister, and the local MLA. They promised to intensify their movement if the government ignores these requests.
