Aizawl: Members of the Mizo National Front Youth Wing swarmed the Chief Minister's Office in Aizawl on Saturday, August 8. They wanted an apology from Chief Minister Lalduhoma. The demonstration followed his recent public comments regarding the 1986 Mizoram Peace Accord and Inner Line Permit regulations.
Protesters arrived with black flags. They also carried Pawndum, a traditional Mizo shawl used to signal mourning and grief. Mizo National Youth Front vice president Lalnunmawia Pautu confirmed the group intended to greet the Chief Minister with these symbols upon his return from Delhi.
The group claims Lalduhoma undermined Mizoram's constitutional safeguards. They argue his words downplayed the historical and political weight of the peace accord. The 1986 agreement ended decades of insurgency and birthed the state's current political stability. Pautu stated the protest served to "convey their disappointment and demand an apology from the chief minister."
Lalduhoma stayed away. He did not show up at his office during the demonstration. The Youth Wing maintains that the state's constitutional protections remain tied to its unique history.
