Mizoram Police Deny Aunt's Involvement in Teen Murder Probe

Aizawl: Mizoram Police debunked viral online rumors on Sunday, August 16, asserting that the aunt of a murdered 15-year-old girl played no part in her death. Investigators hold no suspects. The search for the truth continues.

The victim vanished from her home at 8:30 pm on August 3. Two days later, locals discovered her body on the grounds of a government school in Mualthuam North, located in Lunglei district. Authorities filed the case at Lunglei Police Station under Sections 103(1) and 140(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.

R Lalthankima, the Sub-Divisional Police Officer for Lunglei, now leads a three-member Special Investigation Team tasked with solving the homicide. Officials promised a public update once they reach a major lead. Police issued a stern warning against spreading speculation, noting that the "investigation into the case was underway."

Investigators are now calling on the public to help crack the case. Officials have asked anyone with credible information regarding the teenager's death to come forward and share what they know with the police.

Investigators stated that the social media claims regarding the aunt were fabricated and factually incorrect. Local residents familiar with the case reported that the victim suffered a stab wound to the chest. An autopsy conducted on the girl found no signs of sexual assault.

Chief Minister Lalduhoma and Education Minister Vanlalthlana have condemned the killing. The Chief Minister demanded that those responsible for this heinous crime be identified and brought to justice without delay.
