Aizawl: Mizoram Police launched a manhunt and formed a three-member Special Investigation Team to solve the murder of a 15-year-old girl in Lunglei district. The victim vanished from her Mualthuam North home at 8:30 pm on August 3. Local residents combed the area for two days before finding her body on August 5 at 10:20 am inside a government Middle School.
Authorities registered a case at the Lunglei police station citing Sections 103(1) for murder and 140(1) for kidnapping under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Forensic teams swept the crime scene for evidence while the body underwent a post-mortem examination at Lunglei Civil Hospital on Thursday. Sub-Divisional Police Officer R Lalthankima leads the SIT, which is currently operating out of the village to track down suspects. No arrests are on the books yet.
State officials are demanding results. Chief Minister Lalduhoma and Education Minister Vanlalthlana issued formal condemnations of the killing. Lalduhoma stated, "Those responsible must be identified and brought to justice without delay." Police are now pressing the public to report credible tips and avoid spreading rumors while the investigation grinds forward.
