Guwahati: In Mizoram's Aizawl district, security forces stopped a major drug run. On August 5, the Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police seized 57.280 grams of Heroin No. 4. The haul is worth Rs 42.96 lakh. They found the stash inside five soap cases tucked into a goods truck. Authorities arrested two people at the scene in the Seling area. The suspects now face charges under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.

Violence continues to plague Assam. Police in the Hailakandi district arrested five people for the rape and murder of a 15-year-old student. Her body was found on August 1 in Aloichhara village. A Special Investigation Team is leading the case. Four adults are in police custody. One juvenile is at an observation home. Forensic experts collected evidence from the residence. Investigators say some suspects knew the victim. They are weighing personal disputes against other motives.

Separately, three men are in custody in Cachar district for the gang rape of two minors from Mizoram. The girls were lured into a vehicle on August 3 and taken to Pakaihbil. They were dumped by the road. Dholai police recovered the suspected vehicle and reconstructed the crime scene. A woman was also detained for filming the survivors inside court. She tried to post the video online. Cachar Additional Superintendent of Police Rajat Kumar Pal stated, "The investigation is continuing and further details cannot be disclosed at this stage in the interest of the probe." Officials have filed cases under the POCSO Act.
