Guwahati: Assam Police intercepted a massive drug shipment in Amingaon on August 1, seizing 50,000 Yaba tablets and heroin. Officers stopped a Tata Nexon with license plate AS 11-AA-6800 acting on a tip. The operation, led by Additional Superintendent of Police Kalyan Kumar Pathak, uncovered 5 kg of methamphetamine and 67.5 grams of heroin hidden in secret vehicle compartments.
Police arrested three men from Manipur: 24-year-old Kh Tabish and 41-year-old Thekcham Avinash Singh, both from Thoubal, along with 38-year-old Nongmaithem Biswajit of Imphal West. Authorities estimate the street value at Rs 12.5 crore, while CID analysts place the value at Rs 7.5 crore. Officials stated the haul is a "major success for Assam Police in its ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking."
Separately, Batadrava police in the Nagaon district arrested two men during a routine stop on August 1. Officers caught Afzal Hussain and Saddam Hussain moving 13 grams of narcotics toward Lahorighat. Police seized the suspects' motorcycle and two mobile phones. Investigators are currently tracing the origins and final destination for both cases.
