Guwahati: Nine youths have vanished from Assam’s Tinsukia district, leaving families frantic and police searching for answers. Intelligence reports suggest these young men may have joined the United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent, known as ULFA-I. Authorities have not confirmed these claims yet.
Four individuals disappeared from the Kadamguri area during the Durga Puja celebrations. These youths are Lakshmajit Moran, Biplab Moran, Hati Moran, and Nipu Bor, though one source identified the last name as Nipu Baruah. They never returned home. Their status remains unknown.
A separate group of five youths went missing from Tekebari village under the Pengeri Police Station. This group includes Gouranga Baruah, Ujjalit Moran, Bichitra Baruah, Gunit Baruah, and a fifth individual identified as Chote Bhatta in one report and Satya Bangra in another. Gouranga Baruah and Ujjalit Moran left on October 18. The others have been gone since September 27. They claimed they were meeting friends to discuss a football match.
Families eventually alerted local law enforcement. Tinsukia Police started a formal investigation into these disappearances. Intelligence sources remain suspicious of a militant connection, but no official confirmation exists. The investigation is ongoing as officials check the movements of the missing men. Families are left waiting. One source stated, "The circumstances surrounding the missing youths, including their movements and possible links to militant networks, are expected to be examined as part of the ongoing investigation."
