Guwahati: Officials from Assam and Arunachal Pradesh met in Roing on Monday, November 2. They came to solve a long-running border dispute between Tinsukia and the Lower Dibang Valley district. Talks dragged on for hours. Both state delegations agreed to create a joint committee to address the friction.
Assam Agriculture Minister Atul Bora led his state’s regional committee. His team included Minister Rameswar Teli, MLA Bolin Chetia, Tinsukia Deputy Commissioner Sumit Sattawan, and Superintendent of Police Anchal Chouhan. The group also featured Border Protection and Development Department consultant Dasarath Deka alongside the Sadiya Co-District Commissioner and local circle officers.
Minister Ojing Tasing headed the Arunachal Pradesh contingent. This group included Dambuk MLA Puinnyo Apum, Roing MLA Mutuchu Mithi, Lower Dibang Valley Deputy Commissioner Fwwrman Brahma, and the district Superintendent of Police. Other officials also joined the session.
The newly formed joint committee will consist of residents from the affected zones, administrative officials, and elected representatives. This group must now visit the contested sites to scout the reality on the ground. "The committee will visit the disputed locations and assess the situation before a final settlement is considered," officials stated. They hope this on-site look will pave the way for a permanent fix.
