Guwahati: Police in Tinsukia arrested Natong Kamcha, a resident of Nampong in Arunachal Pradesh, following a sting operation at Jagun. Officers from Lekhapani and Jagun moved on intelligence reports to intercept the suspect as he crossed the state border. He is currently facing charges for smuggling contraband into Assam.
The search yielded an Italy-made pistol and 15 rounds of live ammunition. Authorities also confiscated four soap cases filled with suspected narcotics and two mobile phones. Investigators suspect this arrest marks a broader pattern in the border region. Police sources confirmed, "Kamcha is suspected of having been involved in transporting narcotics from Arunachal Pradesh into Assam on multiple occasions."
Officers are now probing whether the suspect worked alone or for a larger trafficking ring. The investigation includes a deep look into the origin of the seized weaponry. Detectives are also verifying reports of the suspect's past ties to the banned insurgent group NSCN (IM). A case is registered, and the search for the source and destination of the drugs continues.
