Itanagar: Banderdewa Police tracked down 20 stolen two-wheelers hidden across Arunachal Pradesh and Assam. They arrested 23-year-old Jiten Pegu, also known as Anug, in connection with the crime. The suspect hails from No. 18 Chaulmari in Assam’s Lakhimpur district.
The operation kicked off after a September 28 complaint about a stolen TVS NTORQ scooter from the Banderdewa market. Officers registered Case No. 55/2026 under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. Inspector Kipa Hamak oversaw the case while Sub-Inspector Koj Tada handled the legwork. A special team tracked the thief using human and technical intelligence.
Pegu faces court proceedings. He appeared before the Judicial Magistrate First Class at Yupia and is currently held in police custody. His intel led cops to the stash of missing bikes. The haul includes eight TVS NTORQ scooters, five Yamaha RayZR models, one Honda Dio, and six additional motorcycles.
The police are now calling for owners to step forward. Victims should bring valid registration documents and copies of their original theft reports to Banderdewa Police Station. Dr. Nyelam Nega, Superintendent of Police for the Itanagar Capital Region, reminded the public to stay alert. He noted, "Dr Nyelam Nega, Superintendent of Police, ICR Naharlagun, has also urged residents to remain vigilant and take adequate precautions against vehicle theft." He advised parking in well-lit, CCTV-monitored areas and using extra locks.
