Chimpu Police Bust Inter-State Scooter Theft Ring

Itanagar: Chimpu Police cracked an inter-state two-wheeler theft ring. Officers recovered 10 TVS NTORQ scooters following a probe into Case No. 63/2026 under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The investigation started after a theft in Itanagar's Zoo Road area. Night patrols and road checks led to the capture of a child in conflict with law riding a stolen scooty.

This suspect spilled the beans on a network of juveniles. A team led by Inspector N Nishant and SI T Potum traveled to Gohpur, Assam, and brought back five scooters. Another squad under SI Taba Tate pulled four more bikes from Ganga Village for verification. HC J Romin, Constable Bui Nibe, and Constable Tai Leriak assisted the operation under Itanagar SDPO Chera Saban.

Authorities have now apprehended four juveniles. These youths worked as laborers in Itanagar before moving stolen goods to Assam. Police issued notices under Section 317(2) of the BNS to individuals found with the vehicles. Officials are vetting engine and chassis numbers to confirm ownership. Itanagar ICR SP Jummar Basar said, "The rightful owners have been requested to approach Chimpu Police Station through the police station where they originally lodged the FIR concerning their stolen vehicles."

SP Basar praised the team for the recovery. He warned citizens to verify documents before buying used bikes. He also told owners to lock vehicles and report thefts fast. Police expect more links to surface as the investigation continues.
