Guwahati: Nagaon Police busted a kidnapping ring today. Officers rescued a law student from Sialmari after she spent nearly a month in captivity. The victim vanished from her home in Kachalukhowa during the early morning hours about 30 days ago. Her family searched for her relentlessly. Police struggled to track her location until this operation.
Authorities arrested Raju Ahmed, a resident of Sialmari, on abduction charges. Ahmed is no stranger to handcuffs. Records show he has cycled in and out of jail 10 to 12 times for various drug trafficking offenses. The mother of the victim spoke about the agony of the month-long wait. "The woman's mother recounted the family's ordeal," a report stated.
Investigators are now widening the net. They are probing Abdul Rahman, a former president of the village defence party and uncle to Ahmed. Allegations suggest Rahman helped hide the crime and used his local influence to shield his nephew from previous run-ins with the law. Police have not yet verified these claims against Rahman, but the investigation remains active.
