Harvest Mission School Students Sweep Dorians Society Spelling Bee

Kohima: Harvest Mission School students dominated the 5th Dorians Society Spelling Bee held at Kingdom Culture Church Hall in Dimapur on October 31. Ngonle Konyak, a seventh-grade student, secured the top spot, while her classmate Jentiren Jamir took third. Felix Singh of Lewis Academy claimed second place. The winners walked away with cash prizes of Rs 10,000, 5,000, and 3,000, respectively, plus certificates.

Forty-four students from 22 schools across Dimapur, Chümoukedima, and Niuland competed in the event. The contest invited two representatives from each school among the seventh and eighth grades. Former Assistant Professor Imolangla Pongen and former journalist Yupangnenla Longkumer judged the rounds. Hope Academy teacher Helen Ao served as the pronouncer.

Konyak credited her school principal and teachers for her performance. Asked about future competitions, she stated, “If I have the opportunity, I will go.”

Dorians Society Chairperson Meyi Longchar launched the annual contest in 2022 to boost vocabulary and linguistic skills. Longchar thanked the contributors and requested ongoing community backing. “Our society aims to carry on this tradition every year to develop the skills of the students, their vocabulary,” he noted.
