Retired CRPF Veteran Begs Assam Chief Minister for Help Against Land Grabber

Guwahati: Farij Uddin Barbhuiya wants his land back. The retired CRPF veteran from Kashipur Part-II in Assam’s Cachar district turned to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma after local authorities ignored his pleas. He claims he owns 14 kathas of land, but someone else holds the keys.

Barbhuiya’s struggle started years ago. His original home fell during the Bharatmala project. He bought new land to replace it. He tasked a man named Rabir Hussain Laskar, known as Lal, to watch the property. Lal allegedly demanded and took Rs 1 lakh from Barbhuiya’s son for this service.

Trouble peaked after the son passed away. Barbhuiya claims Lal threatened workers on the plot with a machete, forcing them to flee. The veteran says Lal now occupies the site illegally. He reported the land grab to the Cachar Superintendent of Police and the Deputy Inspector General, but the files went nowhere.

The former soldier retired in 1989. He lives now with his wife and three grandchildren. Age drains his strength, leaving him unable to keep fighting the local administration alone. Desperation pushed him to make a public offer to the head of the state. During a press conference, he stated, “Will put CM’s name on house signboard if land is returned.”
