Guwahati: The Doomdooma Sports Association wants help. They petitioned Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on October 29 for a major overhaul of the historic Doomdooma Town Field. General secretary Rana Sonar delivered the formal request to the state government this past Thursday during the Chief Minister’s two-day trip to the Tinsukia district.

Established in 1966 and affiliated with the Tinsukia District Sports Association, the ground serves as a hub for local football, athletics, and community events. It has long helped identify regional talent. President Dhiraj Gohain and Sonar argue that the site needs modern equipment to keep serving local players. They want to boost participation and host larger events.

The association detailed six specific needs for the facility. They requested proper levelling and drainage for the football pitch and a dedicated, equipped volleyball court. They also pushed for a covered spectator shade, non-slip floor tiles, and energy-efficient floodlights for night matches. Additional sports infrastructure is also on the list.

Leadership remains optimistic about the project. They stated, "The proposed improvements would encourage greater participation in sports, help identify and nurture emerging talent, promote physical fitness among young people and create a more conducive environment for hosting larger sporting events." The group expects the state to act through existing departmental schemes to meet these local goals.
