Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated an international-standard cricket ground in Naharkatia on October 13. The project aims to bolster local sports infrastructure. It gives regional cricketers a professional space for training and competition.

Sarma praised the town for its cultural roots and athletic history during the ceremony. He specifically honored Toshen Bora, the footballer who played for India in the 1970 Asian Games and the 1972 Pre-Olympic tournament in Rangoon. "Toshen Bora's accomplishments demonstrated that talent can emerge from anywhere," Sarma told the crowd.

The Assam Cricket Association spearheaded the construction of the facility. This is part of a larger plan to build a sporting ecosystem across the state. The government is also currently building a full-fledged hockey stadium nearby to keep the momentum going.
