Guwahati: The Assam Cricket Association flipped the switch on a new floodlighting system Saturday at its stadium in Umrangso. This upgrade transforms the Dima Hasao venue into a site capable of hosting day-night matches. Dima Hasao Autonomous Council Chief Executive Member Debolal Gorlosa officially opened the facility alongside BCCI Honorary Secretary Devajit Saikia.

The association aims to push professional cricket out of big cities and into the hills. This infrastructure boost targets local talent development. Gorlosa noted the impact on the local youth during the ceremony. He said the floodlighting facility would encourage young cricketers from Dima Hasao by providing improved infrastructure and opportunities to pursue the sport.

ACA Apex Council member Mukutananda Bhattacharjya, former secretary Tridib Konwar, and former vice-president Porikshit Dutta joined local dignitaries for the event. The group watched an exhibition match between the CEM XI and the ACA Secretary XI to test the lights. The day also featured the opening game of the Sengya Tularam Trophy, where the Umrangso Cricket Club beat the Diyungbra Sports Association.
