Guwahati: The Kutumb Suraksha Parishad (KSP) claims a massive corruption syndicate is operating within the Assam Transport Department. KSP central president Satya Ranjan Bora cited widespread irregularities involving goods vehicle registration, weight modifications, and the installation of speed-limiting devices. The group plans to take the matter to the High Court with supporting files.

The organization pointed to a departmental letter from October 13, reference number DTK/RL/Misc/24/2002/10950, regarding gross vehicle weight corrections. Bora alleged that authorities authorized illegal weight increases to facilitate kickbacks. He demanded an audit of all money collected through these schemes. Intermediaries reportedly shake down trucks hauling soil, sand, stone, cement, bitumen, and timber. KSP further claims weight records are routinely scrubbed and falsified during the registration phase.

Transit challans often list far less cargo than what trucks actually carry. The group also targeted the installation of speed-limiting devices, calling the equipment substandard and a drain on public funds. Bora highlighted the involvement of Sujal Bardoloi in the rollout of Vehicle Location and Tracking Devices. These tracking tools should monitor real-time safety, but the KSP says the program is a vehicle for graft. Bora stated, "The organization was preparing to approach the High Court with supporting documents."

Bora additionally slammed Kamrup Metropolitan District Transport Officer Himangshu Das for abusive behavior toward drivers and staff. KSP vice-president Balen Das, general secretary Sailen Kumar Deka, and joint secretary Suman Turike joined the briefing at the Dispur Press Club. The group vows to continue its Satya Anwesan campaign until officials face real accountability.
