Assam Government Fires ACS Officer Over MP Fund Scandal

Guwahati: Assam Administrative Service officer Hemanta Kumar Dutta is out of a job. The state government dismissed the official following a probe into his management of funds tied to former Rajya Sabha MP Ajit Kumar Bhuyan. He faced accusations of misconduct while overseeing projects funded by the Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme.

Disciplinary action followed a series of internal reviews. Investigators launched nine separate inquiries into the alleged financial irregularities. Officials confirmed the results in a recent report: "The enquiry claimed that allegations against Dutta were established in eight of the nine departmental investigations conducted in connection with the alleged MPLADS fund irregularities."

Dutta managed the implementation and spending of the MP fund. While the specific nature of the projects and the exact dollar amount of the missing money remain under wraps, the state moved to terminate his contract based on these findings. This dismissal represents a major crackdown on departmental mismanagement.
