Guwahati: Dibrugarh authorities slapped an indefinite ban on all pork sales in the Moran Revenue Circle on October 25. The move follows a report from the District Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Officer after ten tissue samples from local markets tested positive for African Swine Fever at the North Eastern Regional Disease Diagnostic Laboratory in Guwahati. All shops selling pig products must stay shut.

The administration locked down movement. Pigs and related products cannot move to or from other districts. Officials enacted this order under the Disaster Management Act of 2005 and the state government's specific ASF control plan.

The threat is real. African Swine Fever spreads fast and kills livestock. The District Commissioner warned that anyone ignoring the directive faces legal consequences, stating that "violations of the order may invite prosecution under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita."

Local departments now have orders to enforce these restrictions. They must also push public awareness campaigns to keep the virus contained. These rules stay active until officials issue further notice.
