Guwahati: Police pulled the body of 24-year-old Namita Baruah from a water-filled drain near the Moran Railway Overbridge in Dibrugarh on Tuesday. Baruah, the wife of Grade IV railway worker Hirak Jyoti Baruah, had been missing since September 16. The family lived in a house built on railway land at Fatikachowa Nepali Gaon.
Locals pointed fingers at possible alcohol abuse. These claims remain unverified. Authorities refuse to jump to conclusions until they finish the investigation. Police and local officials arrived on the scene to secure the site and process the area.
Officials sent the remains to a morgue for a mandatory post-mortem examination. The report will determine the official cause of death. As the investigation continues, a police spokesperson stated, "The precise cause and circumstances of Namita Baruah’s death are expected to become clear after the post-mortem report and further police investigation."
