Guwahati: GST Intelligence and Enforcement Unit agents kept digging through Maa Kamakhya Coke Industries on Sunday. The operation reached its fourth day on November 8. Investigators suspect the firm wrongly claimed several crores in input tax credit. The coal trading and coke manufacturing business keeps an office at Beltola Tiniali in Guwahati and a plant at Amingaon.
The search started November 5 after a probe found the firm allegedly used fake invoices from non-existent entities to dodge tax bills. Officials seized documents and electronics during the first day. They also found over 10 GST registration numbers, forcing them to widen the hunt. A separate operation is currently hitting Mahalakshmi Continental, a firm tied to proprietor Naveen Singhal.
Three proprietors face scrutiny: Anil Kumar Agarwal, Bimal Kumar Agarwal, and Naveen Kumar Gupta. Gupta, also known as Naveen Singhal, remains the only one cooperating. The other two owners ignored repeated notices. Officials stated, "Two of the firm's three proprietors could face arrest if they continue to remain absent from the investigation despite repeated summons."
The team now considers pulling in the Enforcement Directorate and the Directorate General of GST Intelligence. They need help with the wider financial audit. The tax evasion case continues to grow.
