Two separate deaths in Assam prompt police investigations

Guwahati: A man died at the Forever Wellness Home rehab centre in Guwahati on Saturday, August 15. The family of Rubul Das alleges he was murdered at the Mathgharia facility where he lived for eight months. Rehab staff transported Das to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital without notifying relatives. The family filed a complaint at the Noonmati police station, and the body remains at the hospital morgue pending a post-mortem.

Separately, 32-year-old Biswajit Pal was found dead near the Sonabarighat bypass in Cachar district on Sunday, August 16. Local residents discovered the body in the Syedpur Part-II area. His motorcycle lay nearby. A forensic team processed the scene alongside a magistrate before transporting the remains to Silchar Medical College and Hospital.

Pal, a resident of Bhagabazar, recently returned to Silchar from Tamil Nadu. He spent Independence Day with his sister before heading home. He left his house on his motorcycle the following morning. Relatives are demanding a full inquiry into the death. A close relative said, "They have also demanded that anyone found responsible be identified and arrested if the investigation establishes a case of murder." Noonmati and Cachar police continue to investigate both cases as the cause of death remains unknown for both men.
