Guwahati: Five hundred students and staff gathered at St. Mary’s E.M. High School in Baradi, Barpeta, for a major emergency simulation. Everyone hit the deck. The District Disaster Management Authority ran the show alongside the 1st Battalion of the National Disaster Response Force. The Fire and Emergency Services, the District Disaster Response Force, and the Health Department also joined the operation.

Teams walked the campus through earthquake and fire scenarios. They demonstrated search and rescue tactics, casualty management, first aid, and organized evacuation routes. Participants learned how to move fast without causing a stampede. The training focused on teaching staff and students how to react when seconds count.

DDMA Barpeta officials said the program helped "strengthen disaster preparedness" across the region. They want to ensure schools stay ready for real-world threats. Regular drills remain the standard for building safety and coordination between local agencies. The authority plans to keep pushing these safety initiatives to keep the district prepared for future emergencies.
