Guwahati: Rani Police recovered the body of 25-year-old Nikhil Jha from the Garbhanga Reserved Forest on Monday, July 13. Jha, a resident of Guwahati's Fatasil area, vanished on Sunday while swimming in a forest water body during a trip with friends Devesh Asopa, Padam Asopa, and Aman Chettri. His companions returned safely, but Jha failed to surface. Family and locals called for help, leading to the search operation. Officials have sent the remains for a post-mortem examination as the probe into his death continues.

Meanwhile, another unidentified body appeared near the New Bongaigaon Railway Station on July 14. Locals discovered the remains in bushes close to the railway water tank and notified the authorities. Police arrived to secure the scene and transport the body for a post-mortem to determine how the person died. Investigators currently lack a identity for the victim. Police said, "It is too early to determine whether the case involves murder, suicide or any other circumstances." Forensic teams are now waiting on final medical findings to establish the cause of death.
