Meghalaya Education Minister Calls for Expanded Student Skill Development

Shillong: Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui pushed students to prioritize skill development and talent recognition during a speech in Shillong on October 12. He spoke at the closing ceremony for the Golden Jubilee of Dangar Dombah Government Lower Primary School. The institution celebrated five decades of service to young learners. Rymbui released a souvenir documenting the school history and journey.

Government adviser HM Shangpliang attended alongside Riwar Secondary School principal Rev. RM Thongni and St. Peter’s Higher Secondary School principal Fr. James Mawa. Local leaders, parents, and teachers joined the event. Rymbui credited the staff for their work, telling the crowd, "Education should extend beyond classroom learning, equipping young people with the knowledge, skills and confidence to face future challenges and contribute meaningfully to society."

The state government aims to bolster the sector with better school infrastructure and teacher support. Rymbui thanked the School Management Committee and parents for their ongoing trust. Shangpliang echoed these sentiments by calling for tighter cooperation between the government, families, and school officials to meet local needs. Former teachers gathered to share memories of the institution, which now serves 290 enrolled students. The day concluded with cultural performances by the pupils.
