Akhil Gogoi Demands Probe Into Alleged Assault of Advocate at Azara Office

Guwahati: Raijor Dal chief Akhil Gogoi is demanding a crackdown on officials following an alleged assault on a female advocate. The incident occurred inside the Azara Revenue Circle Office in Guwahati. A viral video of the confrontation surfaced on October 10. Gogoi wants immediate action against Revenue Circle Officer Biplab Sharma Bordoloi, ALRS official Bipul Deka, and advocate Bastab Barman.

The advocate visited the office for a case hearing. She claimed an ALRS official blasted her with obscene language and ordered her to clear out. When she tried to complain to the Revenue Circle Officer, the situation spiraled. The advocate started recording the interaction on her phone. Witnesses claim an official grabbed her hand to snatch the device while the office doors were locked.

Gogoi blasted the state of affairs in the Chief Minister's home territory. He took aim at Himanta Biswa Sarma, stating, "Women are not safe in your constituency." The Sivasagar MLA is now pressuring the Assam Police, the Director General of Police, and the Guwahati Police Commissionerate to launch an investigation. Officials have not verified the specific circumstances behind the allegations as of yet.
