Guwahati: District officials shut down Ishwaatul Uloom Madrasatul Banat in the Bongaigaon district of Assam this week. The move follows claims that teacher Aminul Islam sexually abused a student. Violent protests broke out after the incident. Residents vandalized the facility located in Malegarh, Jogighopa.

Police Superintendent Numal Mahatta led officers and an Executive Magistrate to the site. They moved to restore order. Parents arrived shortly after to collect their children. All 148 minor girl students are now back with their families. The school remains closed until further notice.

A preliminary inquiry found the private institution violated state regulations. Authorities have not detailed the specific violations yet. Police investigations continue. A local official noted the situation requires a firm response as the probe remains active. The administration confirmed, "the administration has sealed the institution until further orders."
