Guwahati: Conservation group Aaranyak wants a total ban on drones near Amur Falcon congregation sites in Assam. The birds stop in Northeast India during their long migration from eastern Asia to southern Africa. Drones now threaten their safety. Content creators and tourists frequently fly the devices to film the birds for social media. Fast propellers risk killing or maiming the falcons in a mid-air collision.

Aaranyak specifically wants the Dima Hasao Autonomous Council and the Morigaon district administration to stop these recreational and commercial flights. The group demands clear buffer zones and strict enforcement from the Forest Department. Wildlife photographer and Aaranyak secretary Udayan Borthakur said, "Capturing aerial photographs and videos for social media should not come at the cost of wildlife safety."

The group insists human entertainment cannot trump bird welfare. They offered to help local authorities build awareness campaigns to teach visitors how to act near these sites. Falcons remain at risk if the current trend continues. Aaranyak maintains that protecting the birds during their transit is the top priority.
