Guwahati: Conservationists and officials gathered at the Ultapani Forest Range in Assam on Tuesday to mark World Rhino Day. They pushed for tighter protection of the Sikhna Jwhwlao National Park. Attendees focused on better coordination between local communities, the Forest Department, and conservation groups.
Key participants included P.K. Bhuyan of the Haltugaon Forest Division, Dr. Bibhab Kumar Talukdar from Aaranyak, Range Officer Mintu Boro, and Evergreen Charitable Trust president Rajib Narzary. They debated current protection measures and discussed the need for regular training and improved field logistics. They want to pool resources and expertise to stop illegal activity.
Aaranyak handed out essential gear to the park staff. The donation included field shoes, rain gear, and rechargeable ranger torches. This equipment helps personnel patrol in rough weather and difficult terrain. It improves safety and mobility. "The initiative is expected to strengthen field preparedness and operational capacity and support conservation and protection efforts in and around the national park," the organization noted.
The event was organized by Binita Baruwati, Wasima Begum, Bijeet Baro, Mizing Boro, and Dhananjoy Mashahary. They worked alongside stakeholders to finalize the outreach.
