Guwahati: Boko police intercepted 40 cattle during a midnight raid at Jarighat-Majebari along the Assam-Meghalaya border. Officers acted on a tip-off about a smuggling ring pushing livestock from Assam through Meghalaya toward Bangladesh. Four suspects bolted before officers could slap on the handcuffs. They vanished into the dark.
Munna Pasoni, the officer-in-charge of Boko Police Station, teamed up with Atul Deka from the Hahim Police Outpost to lead the operation. The authorities recovered the animals, but the smugglers remain at large. Police are now digging into the network to identify the culprits and figure out who owns the herd.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has consistently pushed for hard enforcement against cattle smuggling in the state. This raid fits into a larger push to clamp down on vulnerable border routes. As the investigation grinds forward, officials stated, "Further details regarding the ownership of the cattle and the next course of action are awaited."
