Guwahati: Assam police stopped a cattle smuggling operation late Tuesday, September 8, in the Bondapara area of Kamrup district. Officers from Boko Police Station intercepted the transport following intelligence reports. Nineteen cattle were recovered at the scene. No suspects were caught.
The operation unfolded under the command of Boko Police Station Officer-in-Charge Munna Pachani and Hahim Police Outpost in-charge Atul Deka. Police claim the animals were headed from Assam through Meghalaya into Bangladesh. "Further action will be taken against those found involved in the illegal trade," police sources stated.
Authorities impounded a Mahindra pickup with license plate ML 07C 0232 along with three motorcycles. Two bikes, AS 25 K 3808 and AS 25V 8056, were recovered. The third bike, a Pulsar, had no license plate. Officers moved the cattle and vehicles to the Hahim Police Outpost. The animals now reside in a gaushala.
Patrols are increasing. Police intend to tighten their grip on the Boko area to curb future illegal transport attempts.
