Bongaigaon Police Bust Cattle Smuggling Ring, Seize 82 Animals

Guwahati: Bongaigaon Police raided a sawmill in North Salmara Part-III and rescued 82 head of cattle. The operation struck a heavy blow against an alleged smuggling ring in Lower Assam. Authorities detained the sawmill owner, a man identified as Gafur. They are now working to identify his accomplices and map the broader network.

Officers seized two trucks from the site, marked AS 25 FC 4396 and AS 20 AC 2808. Early reports indicate the livestock originated near the Assam-West Bengal border. The animals were mid-transit when police intervened. Officials are checking if Gafur used the facility for long-term illicit operations. The investigation remains active. As officials said, the operation was conducted at a sawmill belonging to a person identified as Gafur.
