Itanagar: Congress leader Jairam Ramesh turned his fire on Union Home Minister Amit Shah on November 3. He claims the formation of the new Arunachal Janta Party serves as a political dumping ground for defectors leaving the Trinamool Congress. Ramesh linked the move to the "self-styled Chanakya," suggesting a coordinated strategy behind the scenes.
The Arunachal Janta Party set up shop on October 16, 2026. Its headquarters sits at 015, Dokum Colony, Akash Deep, Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh. The outfit now seeks registration with the Election Commission of India under Section 29A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951. Public notice invites objections sent to Nirvachan Sadan on Ashoka Road, New Delhi, before December 3, 2026.
Ramesh drew a sharp comparison to the Nationalist Citizens Party of India. He labels that group a parking place for TMC turncoats. Founded in October 2022 in West Bengal, the NCPI joined the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance after the TMC lost its footing in state assembly elections. Reports indicate that 20 of 27 TMC Lok Sabha MPs defected to the NCPI to align with the NDA.
The Congress leader highlighted the massive proliferation of fringe political entities. India currently hosts 734 registered but unrecognised parties. These groups reported a collective income exceeding Rs 1,100 crore during the 2024-25 fiscal year. Ramesh claimed, "Half of that amount went to 29 such parties in Gujarat alone."
