TMC and UDP skip East Khasi Hills electoral roll release

Shillong: The All India Trinamool Congress and the United Democratic Party skipped the publication of the final electoral roll in East Khasi Hills on Monday. Neither party sent a representative to the Golden Jubilee Mini-Auditorium at North-Eastern Hill University to pick up their copies. Assistant Commissioner Tosanbha Marwein called both parties to the podium, but nobody stepped forward.

Other political organizations showed up. Representatives from the National People’s Party, the Voice of the People Party, the Bharatiya Janata Party, and the Hill State People’s Democratic Party attended the event. Officials confirmed that every political party received formal invitations for the gathering.

The district registry now counts 5,67,146 electors. This total includes 2,66,097 men, 3,01,048 women, and one third-gender voter. A Special Intensive Revision led to the deletion of more than 2,000 ineligible individuals across the 17 Assembly constituencies in the region. Fifteen constituencies fall under the district administration, while two fall under the Sohra Civil Subdivision.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Ronnie Wahlang oversaw the release. He thanked election staff and traditional institutions for their work. Wahlang highlighted the tough conditions faced by field workers during the house-to-house verification process. He noted that staff dealt with aggressive dogs and threats of police complaints. Wahlang said, "field staff were at times turned away by residents, confronted by dogs, and even threatened with police complaints over repeat visits." He praised the Booth Level Officers as the unsung heroes of the revision.
